What Is My Gmail Address? How to Find It on Phone or Computer

You are signed in to Gmail on your phone, but you can’t remember your exact address? Or you need to type it into a form and it isn’t in front of you? Here is where to find it in a few seconds, on any device.

In short: what is my Gmail address?

  • Fastest way: open Gmail and tap your profile picture (or your initial) at the top right. Your address appears right under your name.
  • Your Gmail address is the username you chose when you created the account, followed by @gmail.com. Some older accounts end in @googlemail.com.
  • On a computer, the address is also written in the browser tab title, such as “Inbox – jane.doe@gmail.com – Gmail”.
  • Signed out and can’t remember it? See the section on forgotten addresses below, or go straight to recover your Gmail account.

How do I check my email address in the Gmail app?

Most people look for their address on their phone, while already signed in to the Gmail app. The method is almost the same on Android and iPhone. The full address is shown under your name, above the Manage your Google Account button.

How to find my Gmail address on Android

  1. Open the Gmail app.
  2. Tap your profile picture or initial in the top right corner.
  3. Read the address displayed under your name.

On most Android phones, Gmail is preinstalled and linked to the Google account used to set up the phone.

How to find my Gmail address on iPhone

The steps are the same in the Gmail app for iOS: open the app, tap your profile picture at the top right, and read the address. If you read your Gmail messages in Apple’s Mail app instead, use the phone settings method below.

What if there are several accounts on the same phone?

Tapping your profile picture lists every account signed in on the device. The one at the top is the account currently open. To manage several addresses inside one mailbox, see how to use multiple email addresses on the same Gmail account.

How do I see my email address on a computer?

  1. Go to gmail.com in your browser.
  2. Click your profile picture at the top right. Your address is displayed at the top of the panel.

You can also hover over the picture without clicking: a tooltip shows your name and address. And the browser tab displays it in its title. If Gmail is not open, sign in to Gmail first.

Where is my email address in my phone settings?

This method works even if the Gmail app is not installed, or if you are not sure which account the phone uses.

  • Android: open Settings, then Google. The main account appears at the top. You can also go to Settings > Passwords & accounts (or Accounts) > Google. Labels vary by brand: on a Samsung phone, look under Accounts and backup > Manage accounts.
  • iPhone: open Settings > Mail > Accounts. On recent versions of iOS, the path is Settings > Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts. Tap the Gmail account to see the address.

The address shown here is the one your phone uses. It is also the answer to “what is my email?”.

Is my Gmail address the same as my Google account?

Usually, yes. If your address ends in @gmail.com, it is also the username of your Google account, the one you use for YouTube, Google Drive or the Play Store. A Google account can, however, be created with a non-Gmail address, such as a work address or a Yahoo one. In that case, there is no Gmail address attached to it. If you don’t have one yet, you can create a free Gmail address in two minutes.

Why does my address end in @googlemail.com?

Some older accounts, created in the United Kingdom or in Germany, were given @googlemail.com addresses. Both endings deliver to the same mailbox. When in doubt, give the one displayed in your account.

Do the dots in my Gmail address matter?

No. Gmail ignores dots in usernames: john.smith@gmail.com and johnsmith@gmail.com reach the same mailbox. Capital letters don’t matter either. For a form, copy the address exactly as displayed, to avoid any confusion.

What if I forgot my Gmail address and I’m signed out?

First, check another device where you may still be signed in: a tablet, an old phone, a family computer. Then apply the methods above. Also look for an old email you sent to a friend, or ask the person who created the account for you. If nothing works, Google can find your address from your phone number or your recovery email. The steps are explained in how to recover your Gmail password or account.

How to find the Gmail address of someone else

The simplest way is to ask them. If they already emailed you, open one of their messages: the address appears next to or under their name. You can also check your Google Contacts or your phone’s address book. There is no public directory of Gmail addresses, so be wary of websites claiming to provide one.
